Paesano on the TEDx stage

Behind every one of our bottles there is a label, but above all there is a story. A story made of sweat, deep roots and that typically Sicilian hunger that turns obstacles into stepping stones.

On April 19th, our founder Giuseppe Cinquerrui took to the prestigious TEDx stage to share this story with the world. His speech, entitled "The Market Stall Algorithm: how to scale the world while remaining human", was not just the story of a company's birth, but an anthem to the courage of those who start from the bottom. Here are the most emotional passages from that journey.

The real Business School? The local street market

There are children who grow up watching cartoons, and children who grow up among the genuine voices of the weekly markets in southern Sicily. Giuseppe belongs to the second category. At just six years old, he worked alongside his mother and Aunt Pippina behind a stall that didn't sell oranges, but underwear: socks, panties, bras, and girdles.

Imagine a child who has to learn not to blush while recommending an item to a customer. It was in that wonderful street theater that Giuseppe learned the most important lesson of marketing: selling does not mean convincing someone to buy, but solving a problem with dignity, empathy, and an inevitable pinch of irony.

Survival instinct: the market is everywhere

Growing up in Sicily shapes you. It teaches you that if you wait for the perfect opportunity, you are lost. You need a survival instinct.

During his university years in Palermo, while studying Economics and Finance, Giuseppe put this vital instinct into practice. To pay for his studies, he identified a need and created a solution, becoming a point of reference for his colleagues: he sold rolling papers, filters, and even condoms. It was not just an economic matter, but the validation of a model: intercepting a primary need and providing an immediate response. By day a student leader, by night a micro-entrepreneur.

From the town square to Crowdfunding

When the idea for our startup was born and the need to raise initial capital arose, there was a lot of skepticism. But the "Market Stall Algorithm" had already dictated its rules.

  • The awareness: If you can sell socks under the scorching August sun in Niscemi, you can certainly sell a grand vision to an investor.

  • The evolution: Crowdfunding, after all, is simply the marketplace transferred to the web.

Applying the psychology of the market stall to innovative finance, Giuseppe looked 82 people in the eye through a screen asking for their trust. The result? A collection of €218,000 in Equity Crowdfunding.

Scaling the world without forgetting the dawn

Today, our vision has crossed national borders. We operate with the United States, Australia, and Europe. Giuseppe was awarded in Parliament as one of the best 500 Italian startup founders. Yet, he confesses that every time he closes an international contract, he still hears the echo of Aunt Pippina’s voice.

The message launched from the TEDx stage to young people is powerful and crystal clear: don't try to emulate Silicon Valley if you were born in Palermo or Niscemi. Use your hunger. The true "Made in Italy" is not just a label; it is having the courage to take a local tradition and transform it into a global asset, using the extraordinary Sicilian ability to do a lot with nothing.

"It doesn't matter what you sell today—whether it's socks, software, or dreams—what matters is how you do it. Stay human, stay flexible. The impossible is just an opinion of someone who has never been to the market at six in the morning."

The greatest recognition for us at Paesano? Knowing that at the helm of this adventure is still that market stall child. Only today, in front of him, there is a market as big as the world.
